Oujda prepares the largest dish of "Karan" in the world

Oujda prepares the largest dish of "Karan" in the world

The "Karan" Festival, whose first edition starts on 19 August in Oujda, has set itself the challenge of preparing the largest dish of "Karan" in the world.

Considered one of the most popular typical dishes of the Oriental region, "Karan," made from chickpea flour and eggs, is easy to prepare. Rich and tasty, the "Karan" sandwich is affordable for all budgets. Sold by the portion, it is offered from one dirham, recalls the MAP.

The valorisation of this famous dish of the Oriental aims essentially to register Oujda among the world cities that promote their tourist image by making their heritage known at the global level, declared the festival director, Mohamed Boughoufala, to the MAP.

Likewise, the festival wants to "document" this gastronomic and cultural heritage, in the face of the absence of references tracing the origins of this dish and the phases of its historical evolution, he added.

Organised by the Lionceaux du Maroc Association, the festival, whose activities will span three days, offers a rich and varied cultural and artistic programme, combining music, street arts including the "halka," and visual arts. Despite the competition from fast food and the change in the eating habits of the population of the Oriental, "Karan," considered the cheapest meal in the world, remains one of the most appreciated and consumed dishes in the region.
