Optimising the health safety of food products

Optimising the health safety of food products

The Southern provinces are now embarking on a new era marked by the implementation of modern and sophisticated work tools and techniques. The objective is to improve the quality of production in all vital economic sectors and thus develop an integrated and rigorous regional development model. In this context, an important ministerial delegation recently inaugurated a modern analysis and research laboratory set up by the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA). The objective of the project, the realisation of which required an investment of 31 MDH, is to contribute to the development of the camel sector and livestock, as well as the valorisation of seafood products and the fishing industry. To do this, an advanced diagnosis of animal diseases will be carried out, thanks to in-depth investigations and research serving 126 establishments operating in the livestock, fishing, and agri-food sectors at the level of the Laâyoune-Boujdour region. In order to carry out this mission, the laboratory has a food microbiology, animal health, and chemistry-toxicology section, as well as an administrative block composed of highly qualified technicians and staff. The project was carried out on an area of 1,200 m². Note that the agricultural and fishing sectors have recorded significant progress in terms of production, knowing that local markets, as well as those at the international level, are demanding in terms of the quality of goods intended for export. This project will accompany the ambitions of producers in the fields of frozen products or other derivatives (camel meat, dairy products, fish, etc.). It also contributes to the creation of a new dynamic of economic and social transformation, through a modern approach to the future of the region. Also, this laboratory is likely to enrich and strengthen the laboratories already operational in the Laâyoune-Boujdour, Guelmim, Smara, and Oued Eddahab Lagouira regions.
