Morning
  1. Visit to the Medina of Fès el-Bali

    • Start your day with a visit to the Medina of Fès el-Bali, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Lose yourself in the winding alleyways and admire the ancient architecture and lively Souks.
    • Main sites not to be missed:
      • The Bou Inania Medersa: A 14th-century Quranic school, known for its impressive architecture and zellige and carved wood decorations.
      • The Al Quaraouiyine Mosque and University: Founded in 859, it is one of the oldest universities in the world still in operation.
      • The Souk Attarine: A traditional market where you can buy spices, dried fruits, and other local products.
  2. Chouara Tanneries

    • Next, head towards the Chouara Tanneries, one of the most famous sites in Fès. Observe the leather tanning process from raised platforms. The colourful views of the dye vats are impressive, but be prepared for a strong smell.
Lunch
  1. Lunch in a Riad
    • Take a break for lunch in one of the many Riads converted into restaurants in the Medina. You will be able to taste traditional Moroccan dishes such as couscous, tagine, or pastilla.
Afternoon
  1. Visit to the Royal Palace (Dar el-Makhzen)

    • After lunch, visit the Royal Palace of Fès. Although the palace is not open to the public, you can admire the impressive golden doors and mosaics from the outside.
  2. The Mellah (Jewish quarter)

    • Next, explore the Mellah, the old Jewish quarter of Fès. Walk through its streets and visit the Ibn Danan synagogue, one of the oldest synagogues in Morocco.
  3. Jnan Sbil Gardens

    • End the afternoon with a relaxing walk in the Jnan Sbil Gardens. These public gardens offer a haven of peace with fountains, shaded paths, and lush vegetation.
Evening
  1. Dinner and Traditional Show
    • To conclude your day, enjoy a dinner in a traditional restaurant with a Moroccan music and dance show. Restaurants in the Medina and the new districts often offer evening shows.

This one-day excursion in Fès will allow you to immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of this fascinating city, while enjoying its architectural wonders and unique atmosphere.
