Laayoune possesses "promising" potential

The President of the Moroccan-Saudi Business Council said he was convinced that the development boom that Laayoune is experiencing in all areas will be further strengthened in the coming years.

The city of Laayoune possesses "promising" investment potential in the tourism, agricultural, industrial and hotel sectors, affirmed, Wednesday in Laayoune, the President of the Moroccan-Saudi Business Council, Mohamed Ben Fahd Al Hamadi, who is leading a delegation of Saudi businessmen visiting the Southern provinces.

In a statement to the press at the end of a meeting between the members of this delegation and the Wali of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, Yahdih Bouchab and the President of the Regional Council, Sidi Hamdi Ould Errachid, focused on investment opportunities in the Southern provinces, Mohamed Ben Fahd Al Hamadi said he was convinced that the development boom that Laayoune is experiencing in all areas will be further strengthened in the coming years.

For his part, Yahdih Bouchab, in an address during this meeting, reviewed the investment opportunities that the Southern provinces in general and the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region in particular possess in several areas, notably tourism, calling, on this occasion, on Saudi businessmen to take advantage of these assets through the development of partnership projects with their Moroccan counterparts.

Recalling the strong ties of friendship and brotherhood uniting Morocco and Saudi Arabia, as well as the common vision shared by the two countries, under the wise leadership of H.M. King Mohammed VI and his brother the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Ben Abdelaziz Al Saoud, the Moroccan official stressed the desire of the two countries to work for the strengthening of cooperation in the field of investments and the promotion of commercial and economic exchanges.

Yahdih Bouchab also pleaded for the diversification of cooperation so that it encompasses the greatest number of sectors.

For his part, Sidi Hamdi Ould Errachid highlighted the natural and human potential that the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region has, in addition to the wealth of its renewable energy sources and the availability of land at competitive prices and basic infrastructure such as airports, the road network and ports, which constitute as many incentive factors for investment.

Sidi Hamdi Ould Errachid on this occasion reviewed the many structuring projects launched in recent years in the region, which has allowed for the improvement of the living conditions of the population, highlighting the high socio-economic development indicators that the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region is experiencing thanks to the High Solicitude that H.M. the King surrounds this part of the Kingdom with, citing in particular the modernisation and development of ports and clean energy installations, the launch of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) projects, the upgrading of productive sectors and job creation.

The Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Morocco, Abdelaziz Mohieddine Khouja, had stressed, Monday in Rabat, that Saudi Arabia and Morocco share a common vision and jointly coordinate their actions at all levels.

The visit of the Saudi delegation is part of the context of supporting the political vision of the two countries, he specified, considering that "the efforts deployed by Saudi Arabia in support of economic development in Morocco constitute, in reality, a source of economic development and investments for Saudi Arabia as well".

This visit of the Saudi delegation to the Southern provinces represents "a strong message reaffirming our support for the territorial integrity of Morocco and our concern to contribute, with all the means at our disposal, to the development of these provinces", he noted.

At the end of this meeting, the members of the Saudi delegation who were accompanied by Moroccan businessmen visited investment projects in the cities of Laayoune and El Marsa.
