The 12th edition of the Tangier Mediterranean Short Film Festival (FCMMT), organized under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, opened on Monday evening at the cinematheque of the city of the Strait.
During the opening ceremony, which took place in the presence notably of the Wali of the Tangier-Tetouan region, Governor of the Tangier-Asilah prefecture, Mr. Mohamed El Yaakoubi, the Mayor of Tangier, Fouad El Omari, and a galaxy of Moroccan and foreign filmmakers, the Director of the Moroccan Cinematographic Centre (CCM), Sarim Fassi Fihri, stressed the importance of this festival, which has become an unmissable event to make Moroccan cinematographic production known and to discover that of the Mediterranean rim.
Since its launch, this event has contributed to the influence of Moroccan cinema, by highlighting the show makers in the Kingdom, added Mr. Fassi Fihri, noting that the CCM supports, within the framework of its attributions, Moroccan cinematographic creation (production, promotion, and training) as a vector for the Kingdom's openness to its regional environment.
For his part, the Mayor of Tangier, Fouad El Omari, welcomed the hosting by the city of the Strait of this major event, noting that this cinematographic meeting reflects the geographical and cultural dimension of the city and the cultural and cinematographic dynamic that the Kingdom is experiencing.
This ceremony was also marked by the screening of the Moroccan film "Ecran noir", by Nour-Eddine Lkhmari. Directed in black and white based on a screenplay by Nadia Larghuet, a producer known to the general public for having hosted the show "Entr'Act" on 2M, this short film shot in the style of a report gives the floor to filmmakers and actors of Moroccan cinema.
Throughout the film, they express themselves without complexes and especially without bitterness about their condition as show makers. The common point linking these professionals is the love and passion they have for the 7th art despite the disillusionments and frustrations.
In a statement to MAP, the Moroccan director, Nour-Eddine Lkhmari, stressed that the objective of his short film, which gives the floor to cinema professionals, is to open a constructive and healthy debate on the situation of this category of artists in Morocco.
