Opening in Tanger of the seventh edition of the Meeting of Andalusian Music Lovers

The work of the seventh edition of the Meeting of Andalusian Music Lovers opened last Monday in Tanger, with a rich and diversified programme that celebrates in particular young lovers of this authentic music, at the initiative of the Nassaïm Al Andalous Association.

Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this cultural event offers a rich artistic and educational programme that celebrates the talent of Andalusian music lovers, through meetings and guided visits within the framework of the "Al Ala" caravan, which travelled through private and public schools, and foreign educational missions in Tanger. This caravan, which visited the Ibn Machich schools and the Banque Populaire Foundation, aims to highlight the works of Andalusian music, its poems and its distinguished compositions, and to expose the history of the music that existed previously in Andalusia and Morocco and their contribution to the appearance of Andalusian music, one of the main pillars of authentic Moroccan culture.

Speaking on this occasion, the president of the Nassaïm Al Andalous Association of Andalusian Music Lovers, Ahmed Guennoun, stressed that this event aimed to promote the ancestral Moroccan art and perpetuate its dissemination among young people, as well as to preserve and promote this cultural heritage. This edition aims to offer music lovers of authentic Andalusian music concerts that will be given both by young amateurs and by great artists of Andalusian music who have come from Tanger, Tétouan, Fès, Rabat, Salé, and Meknès, in order to ensure the sustainability of this cultural heritage, to strengthen the culture of recognition for the great masters of this art, and to meet the expectations of the public of the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma region who are fond of this music, he specified. In this sense, Mr. Guennoun indicated that the organisation of this event, which will continue until Saturday, is dictated by the need to strengthen the cultural and artistic development of the city of the Strait, to promote the civilisational and cultural influence of the region, and to meet the expectations of its population in this field, and this in order to accompany the structuring development projects aimed at raising the city of Tanger to the rank of major international metropolises and to strengthen the cultural influence of the city of the Strait. He also specified that this event aims to encourage young people to take up Andalusian music, promote the role of this authentic art in the dissemination of values of coexistence and peace, strengthen musical dialogue, preserve this cultural heritage, and meet the aspirations of those fond of this music.

On the programme for this edition is the organisation of a conference under the theme "The Haj Abdelkarim Raiss school of Andalusian music in Fès", and an exhibition of photos, books, and works of Haj Abdelkarim Raiss, in order to shed light on this authentic Moroccan art, notably in terms of musical writing and composition. This event will be punctuated by the organisation of musical shows enlivened by the Tangerine Andalusian music orchestra, "Layali Nagham", under the direction of Saïd Belkadi, groups of musicologists from the Rabat-Salé region, the "Nassaïm Al Andalous" Andalusian music choir, under the direction of Jamal Eddine Ben Allal, and the choir of Andalusian music artists from the Fès-Meknès region.
