Moulay Yacoub Province - Nearly 1.3 billion DH for agricultural development

Five flagship agricultural projects with a total budget of 1,315,216 DH enrich the economy of the Moulay Yacoub province and constitute, through their diversity and richness, the engine of development for its agricultural sector.
Moulay Yacoub Province - Nearly 1.3 billion DH for agricultural development

With its beautiful plains offering significant agricultural potential, the Moulay Yacoub province is betting on agriculture for its development and its integration into the regional economy. It is currently relying on five major flagship agricultural projects. For the development of the olive sector, the Millenium Challenge Account (MCA) project, launched a few years ago, is reflected in the extension of the olive-growing area by 6,500 ha, the rehabilitation of plantations over an area of 2,000 ha, and the valorisation of production through the purchase of a crushing unit, training, and supervision of farmers. This project, which should absorb a budget of 300 million DH, covers the rural communes of Ouled Mimoun, Louadaine, Ain Kansara, and Ain Bouali and should benefit some 5,000 farmers.

The second project, with a budget of 5 million DH, concerns the creation of a complex for the valorisation of agricultural products at the level of the Laajajra rural commune. It essentially involves the valorisation of the olive, legume, and caper sectors, the qualification of producers, and the establishment of the cooperative. The Green Morocco Plan is being implemented at the provincial level through two major projects. The first concerns the aggregation of the milk sector and is reflected in the construction and equipment of an industrial unit in the Sbaa Rouadi rural commune with a budget of 136 million for the benefit of 300 farmers. The second project, endowed with a budget of 9.216 million DH, aims at the conversion of olive trees through the planting of an area of 500 ha of olive trees, the acquisition of three olive crushing units, and the training and supervision of 300 beneficiary farmers in the rural communes of Ouled Mimoun, Louadaine, and Laajajra.

To these projects is added the second phase of the irrigated perimeter of the Middle Sebou and Inaouen Aval project, launched by the government in partnership between the French Development Agency at the level of the Tounate province and the Moulay Yacoub province. Endowed with a budget of 865 million, this hydro-agricultural development project should benefit nearly 23,316 inhabitants, including 6,000 from the Moulay Yacoub province. These various projects aim, moreover, to secure the potential for agricultural production and, above all, to improve the incomes of farmers, particularly smallholders who live at the mercy of the rains and who are increasingly facing the depletion and degradation of land and water resources.

Caper cultivation and livestock farming in pole position

The Moulay Yacoub province has a useful agricultural area of 125,700 ha, of which 116,000 ha are occupied by rain-fed land and 9,700 ha by irrigated land. It thus represents more than 35% of the useful agricultural area of the Fès-Boulemane region. The province is also renowned for the cultivation of capers, which covers an area of 16,400 ha, as well as for livestock farming, with a herd composed of 46,623 head of cattle, 230,560 head of sheep, and 5,419 head of goats.
