11 million quintals expected in Doukkala-Abda

Cereal production in the Doukkala-Abda region is expected to reach 11 million quintals (q) during the current season, compared to 5.1 million q during the 2011-2012 season, an increase of 120%, estimates the regional directorate of agriculture in a report. The areas cultivated with cereals were 175,300 hectares (ha) during the current season, an increase of 105% compared to forecasts, indicates the report presented during the ordinary session of the Chamber of Agriculture of the region, specifying that 22% of these lands are devoted to soft wheat and 39% to durum wheat and barley.
