H.M. the King inaugurates several projects included in the framework of the urban upgrading of the city of Imzouren

His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, proceeded on Friday to the inauguration of several projects included in the framework of the integrated urban upgrading programme of the commune of Imzouren (Al-Hoceima province), which mobilises investments of around 581.56 million dirhams (MDH).

The Sovereign thus inaugurated the city's daily market (10.5 MDH) and the centre for artisans and professional activities (16 MDH), two structuring projects intended to improve the working conditions of traders, the settlement of street vendors, the preservation of certain craft trades threatened with disappearance, the promotion of local products, and the strengthening of the organisation and structuring of the craft sector. Built on a total area of 1,400 m², the new daily market houses 101 shops. It should contribute to job creation, the eradication of unsanitary buildings, the beautification of the urban landscape, and the improvement of the quality and sanitary safety of food products. With a covered area of 2,700 m², the Centre for artisans and professional activities aims, for its part, to improve the working conditions of artisans, increase their income, and train young people in several trades that make the region unique. It is also a space for production, finishing, and marketing of craft products where continuous training for artisans is provided, with priorities being the promotion of corporate action and income-generating activities, the structuring of the sector, and the improvement of the quality of craft products. The new centre includes 53 premises for artisans, administrative outbuildings, a prayer room, a cafeteria, an infirmary, and exhibition spaces. On this occasion, H.M. the King presented 24 three-wheeled vehicles, acquired within the framework of the INDH, to fish and vegetable street vendors. The Sovereign also proceeded to the symbolic handing over of keys and award certificates to 10 beneficiaries of professional premises within the new Centre for artisans and professional activities of Imzouren.

With a high social impact, the two projects inaugurated by the Sovereign are part of the integrated urban upgrading programme of the city of Imzouren (2011-2014), the subject of a partnership agreement signed before H.M. the King on 7 October 2011. This four-year programme also aims to bridge the deficit in local facilities, to rehabilitate the various networks (electricity, public lighting, liquid sanitation, drinking water), to develop the economic base at the city level, to strengthen social services, to improve traffic, to beautify the urban landscape, and to protect the commune against the risks of flooding. Several actions have been undertaken under this programme, notably the projects for the restructuring of under-equipped neighbourhoods and road development (177.7 MDH), 57% completed, and those relating to the rehabilitation, strengthening, and extension of electrical, public lighting, liquid sanitation, and drinking water networks (102.3 MDH), which have completion rates varying between 35 and 100%. The protection of the city of Imzouren against the risks of flooding is also on the agenda of the integrated urban upgrading programme of the city of Imzouren. This project, which is at an advanced stage, should contribute to reducing the effects of flooding from the Oueds El Maleh and Iâathmanane and to controlling the flow of Oued El Maleh. Health infrastructures are not left out, as a local hospital is under construction in the city for a total investment of 43 million dirhams. This project, whose completion rate is around 35%, aims to develop hospital infrastructures, strengthen basic health services and bring them closer to citizens, decongest the regional hospital centre of Al-Hoceima, and accompany the urban development that the city of Imzouren is experiencing. Furthermore, the city of Imzouren will see, in the near future, its school infrastructures strengthened through the construction of a school in the Aït Mhaned neighbourhood, a qualifying high school in the Arrabie neighbourhood, and a school and a middle school in the Berkam neighbourhood, for a total investment of more than 34 million dirhams. The project for the upgrading of the industrial zone of Imzouren has, for its part, been 90% completed, while those relating to the construction of an artisan house and a bus station have reached a completion rate of 70% and 65% respectively.
