Imzouren is a town of the Ait Ouaryaghel tribe. The town is known for its historic weekly Souk, Souk Essabt (the Saturday market), a meeting place for merchants from neighbouring tribes, coming from Tamsamane or even from Ait Touzine and Boqana.

The inhabitants are for the most part Berber-speaking; they speak the Tarifit dialect.

In February 2004, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 on the Richter scale struck the region; there were more than 1,000 victims.

Imzouren has the particularity of seeing its population multiply by 3 to 4 during the summer period with the return of Rifian nationals living in Europe and tourism. There are many cafés with large terraces and restaurants in the town.
