Tanjazz is the first and only Moroccan festival labelled by UNESCO. A rare label that salutes a "diplomacy of music". The UN organisation also salutes the international dimension of Tanjazz, whose sixteenth edition, under the title "The jazz of the 5 continents".
By choosing to award its label to the Tangier Jazz Festival, the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) office in Rabat salutes a musical event perfectly embodying the human values of meeting, listening, sharing and peace that the United Nations Organisation advocates. UNESCO also salutes the international dimension of Tanjazz, whose sixteenth edition, under the title "The jazz of the 5 continents", invites us to take a world tour in 5 days, 22 bands and 100 musicians... As every year, the eclectic programming owes much to the original approach of the organisers who promote a "diplomacy" of music, by forging numerous partnerships with diplomatic and cultural institutions from all horizons.
Thus, in addition to the support of its few loyal and passionate sponsors, Tanjazz is pleased this year with the sponsorship of eight international diplomatic and cultural representations. These are the Wallonia-Brussels Delegation which will present the very atypical pianist Jean-Philippe Collard-Neven and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland which sponsors Maciej Obara & Dominik Wania, an innovative duo on sax and piano. And between Latin jazz and funk this time, the "Rhythm Desperados" are sponsored by the Embassy of the Czech Republic while the Austrian Embassy will make us discover The Merry Poppins. For their part, the Instituto Italiano di Cultura presents Roberto Gatto "Perfectrio" and the University of New England proposes the young singer-guitarist Ruby Landen, Pro Helvetia, the Swiss Arts Council, sponsors the one who is already the revelation of the year, Samia Tawil, and the Instituto Cervantes invites us to appreciate Sumrrá, the most exciting trio on the Hispanic scene at the moment. Finally, let us underline that this UNESCO label is awarded within the framework of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the UN organisation.
