Closing of the first edition of the "Dakira" Festival

Closing of the first edition of the "Dakira" Festival

The curtain has fallen on the first edition of the Mohammedia Festival. The least that can be said is that this edition has validated the current dynamic engaged to register it in a perspective of originality and authenticity. The most important thing is to encourage the preservation of the city's history, its historical events, its heritage, its identity, and its culture. In this sense, the organisers have attempted to give this event a historical scope. Indeed, "Dakira" started with a special ceremony during which a commemorative plaque was revealed to the public, in celebration of the 54th anniversary of the visit on 25 June 1960 of the late HM Mohammed V to Fedala, Mohammedia today. This commemorative plaque was placed on the roundabout located in front of the City Hall. Also, from now on, this square bears the name of Mohammed V Square.

In parallel, "Dakira de Mohammedia" was characterised by a rich programme of artistic activities, entertainment for children, workshops focused on civic-mindedness and road safety, environmental awareness, etc. Moroccan artists performed and hosted a great artistic evening in a friendly and festive atmosphere (Nass El Ghiwane, Daoudi, Jil Jillala, the Damou and Tagada groups, as well as the comedians Souileh, Safaj & M'hiwal, who ignited the stage of the Al-Bachir stadium, subsequently illuminated by a fireworks display). "It is a stroke of luck that our stay coincided with this event which allowed us to discover the many facets of this beautiful city of Mohammedia. The sublime fantasia show delighted us. This festival dedicated to the horse has a particular connotation, it perpetuates an ancestral tradition (…) We visited the Kasbah which constitutes a rich heritage. We also noted that it needs a great deal of rehabilitation work in order to preserve the spirituality of this place steeped in history," indicate French tourists. The message is clear, "Dakira" has revealed an aspect of the city: its heritage which has not benefited from rehabilitation. Be that as it may, it is not a question of evaluating "Dakira de Mohammedia" by its organisation, but rather by its purpose. Which remains dependent on an upgrading of the city's old urban fabric and the enhancement of what remains of its heritage riches. The organisers must take stock of this first edition of "Dakira", so that future editions are the subject of consultations with all the partners and actors of the city to develop an adapted programme, with a good dosage of history, culture, art, and music. "Dakira" must grow; for that, it is necessary to involve all the city's potential: authorities, elected officials, civil actors, associations, university, etc., for more research into the history of the city and what remains of its heritage riches.

Salutary rehabilitation: "Dakira" was, certainly, generous with a particular flavour and an urban mix, but for it to grow, it will be necessary to materialise ideas into concrete actions, namely to open as soon as possible a project to safeguard the Kasbah, its ramparts, its old buildings, the old grain warehouses, the water tower, Diour Lakraï, housing built with frustoconical elements, the fishermen's city, the Miramar built in 1927, the Spanish quarter, and that of the cliff... While waiting for the upgrading and rehabilitation works to be launched,

"Dakira de Mohammedia" was well received and gave the city another appeal. It closed in the same way it began, in a good atmosphere punctuated by the traditional ceremony of awarding prizes to athletes and former legends, to associations, and to certain media representatives. The horsewomen and horsemen who took part in the fantasia were also distinguished.
