Closing of the 1st edition of the "Dakira" Festival

The city of Mohammedia hosted the 1st edition of the "Dakira" (Memory) Festival, in commemoration of the historic visit in 1960 by the late H.M. King Mohammed V to this city, formerly Fédala, according to the organisers. Organised by the urban commune of Mohammedia with the support of the Ministry of the Interior and the prefecture of Mohammedia, this edition, which continued until 31 August, provided an opportunity for the city of Mohammedia to highlight all its historical, cultural and artistic heritage for the benefit of the city and its inhabitants, the organisers stated in a press release. Dakira began on 29 August with an official opening ceremony that launched the festivities on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of the proclamation of the city's name.

On this occasion, a commemorative plaque was unveiled by officials to the general public to keep in memory the date of 25 June 1960, an important date in the history of Mohammedia.

This event featured a rich and varied artistic and socio-cultural programme, the organisers specified, noting that Dakira will become an annual event where the city's heritage will be honoured.

The public of Mohammedia also had an appointment with a grand artistic evening featuring local folk troupes, and renowned Moroccan artists and groups. Fantasia exhibitions and entertainment for children, including fun and educational activities, were also on the Festival's menu.
