During the visit of a delegation from the German Association for the United Nations, which arrived in Laâyoune under the leadership of its vice-president Ekkehard Griep, the separatists from within wanted to provoke clashes with law enforcement in Laâyoune.

As with the arrival of every delegation or foreign visitor, the friends of Aminatou Haïdar had circulated a rumour that the German associates were carrying a prize that they were to present to their leader. The objective targeted by the separatists was to provoke incidents with the police to make foreign visitors believe they were victims of violence by law enforcement.

They were mistaken, as the Germans' visit had other objectives.

Created in 1952, the German Association for the United Nations is a non-governmental organisation whose goals include informing the German public about the institutions, activities, and objectives of the UN and stimulating debate around current international issues and foreign policies.

It is within this framework that this delegation landed in Laâyoune, where it was welcomed by the Wali of the region. During their stay in Laâyoune, the German associative actors only met with Haïdar's friends after working sessions with their compatriot, head of MINURSO, Wolfgang Weber, and then with representatives of unionist associations. These meetings were followed by another with the Wali and the director of the Regional Investment Centre, who gave them an overview of the economic situation of the region and the achievements made in the field of infrastructure and development.

The members of this delegation also visited the port, industrial units, seawater desalination plants, and other economic hubs of the city, as well as the headquarters of the regional television. After all these activities, the Germans met and listened to Haïdar's representatives.

At the end of this busy and varied programme, Ekkehard Griep stressed that the city of Laâyoune is experiencing exemplary development and that he had seen nothing to prove that it is a city living in an exceptional state.
