Important socio-economic projects have been initiated

Important socio-economic projects have been initiated in the province. The Wali of the Doukkala-Abda region, Abdallah Bendhaiba, launched in the urban commune of Gzoula the construction and equipment work for a caper collection and marketing unit. The objective of this project, initiated by the Al Khadra agricultural cooperative (locality of Ouled Znine), aims to organise and put capers on sale, which will allow for the generation of income and provide income to member members and create work opportunities. This project will be built on a covered area of 375 m² and the realisation will be done within a period of 6 months. It will require an investment of 1.78 million dirhams, part of which will be supported jointly by the INDH and USAID. The urban commune of Gzoula, for its part, provides a plot of land for the construction of the building. The operations programme also provides for the widening and strengthening of the RR 204 (regional road) linking Safi and Marrakech, for a budget envelope of 32 million dirhams. Indeed, the seriously degraded state of this road axis no longer allows users to be ensured the necessary safety. The widening and strengthening work is planned over a 17 km section and should benefit rural communes, notably Bouguedra and Sidi Tijji. These works aim to promote the socio-economic development of the region, improve the level of services, boost the tourism and craft sectors in these two major economic hubs, and improve road safety. A second phase should cover an 11 km section, linking Sidi Tijji to Jdour. The budget should be allocated shortly. The last project launched is that of the development of the "Sidi Bouzid" corniche in Safi. The Wali gave the go-ahead for the work of the first phase consisting of the realisation of lighting, surfacing, and paving with the development of green spaces. This operation, as well as that concerning the construction and equipment of a fountain, the development of a car park, pedestrian crossings, etc., is part of the upgrading and rehabilitation of the city of Safi. The total cost of this project, co-financed by the DGCL (General Directorate of Local Authorities), the regional council, the provincial council, and the municipal council of the city, is set at 30 million dirhams.

A project long on stand-by

The launch of the first phase of the project to widen regional road 204 linking two such important economic hubs, namely Safi and Marrakech, was welcomed with great satisfaction by the population in general, and road users in particular. So, the ordeal experienced for years by users who have always considered that this road constituted an almost permanent risk to safety, given its totally dilapidated state, its black spots, and its extremely dangerous shoulders, is over. The work on this project, initially planned for 2005, in the form of a dual carriageway, then in 2007 as an expressway 9 metres wide, could not be completed, despite a conventional partnership signed at the time in the presence of the former Minister of Equipment, Karim Ghellab, by the supervisory department and the municipal, provincial, and regional councils of Safi.

After many years, the rehabilitation of this road will allow for the necessary safety and comfort to be offered to users, to promote the tourism sector, and to boost the activity of the port which will become the export port par excellence for the Tensift El Haouz region. It will remain for the deputies of the province to demand in Parliament the revision of the regulations in force governing maritime import and export in Morocco, so as to make them much more adapted to the spirit of the regionalisation policy projected by our country.
