Rabat – The police elements of the Tanger Med Port District arrested, on Saturday, a Swedish national of South American origin, who is the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the Swedish judicial authorities, for his alleged involvement in a case related to international drug trafficking.
The individual, aged 40, was arrested while he was preparing to leave the national territory on board a boat heading towards one of the Spanish ports, indicates a security source, adding that the check operation in the Interpol database revealed that the suspect is the subject of an international search notice, by virtue of a âred noticeâ issued by the Swedish judicial authorities.
The accused is suspected of being involved in a case of international trafficking of a shipment of cocaine, seized in 2023 in a Swedish city, specifies the same source.
He has been placed in police custody as part of the extradition procedure, while the Swedish judicial authorities have been notified of this arrest, pending the sending of the extradition file, it was continued.
This arrest is part of international security cooperation, as well as the sustained efforts deployed by Moroccan security services in terms of pursuing persons wanted at the international level for cross-border crimes.
