The city of Tangier was hit yesterday evening, Wednesday, by heavy rain accompanied by strong thunderstorms, which caused torrents and floods that submerged several neighbourhoods in the city centre and surrounding areas, leading to traffic disruptions and hindering maritime navigation.
The thunderstorm lasted about 15 minutes, enough to overwhelm many water channels and turn neighbourhood streets into ponds, leading to significant damage in several areas.
The damage was particularly concentrated in the neighbourhoods of Aouama, Mesnana, Beni Makada, Souani, Tangier Balia, Oued Souani, and Mghogha. Despite ongoing efforts to contain the situation, it seems too early to accurately assess the extent of the damage or determine the number of affected neighbourhoods.
