Landings of coastal and artisanal fishing at the port of Tangier reached 590 tonnes at the end of last February, a decrease of 11% compared to the same period a year earlier, according to the National Office of Fisheries (ONP).
The market value of these catches, however, increased by 24% to more than 21.02 million dirhams (MDH) during the first two months of 2025, against approximately 17.01 MDH at the end of February 2024, specified the ONP in its latest report concerning statistics on coastal and artisanal fishing in Morocco.
By species, the quantities of pelagic fish landed in this port fell by 33% at the end of last February to 305 T, for a value estimated at approximately 2.91 MDH (-26%), against more than 3.93 MDH/455 T at the end of February 2024.
Landings of white fish, for their part, increased by 47% to 103 T, for a value of approximately 6.08 MDH (+30%), against more than 4.67 MDH/70 T year-on-year.
Regarding landings of cephalopods, they increased by 41% to 142 T for revenues of more than 9.58 MDH (+58%), while for crustaceans, landings fell by 1% to 39 T, generating revenues of more than 2.45 MDH (+5%).
At the national level, landings of marketed coastal and artisanal fishing products reached 67,644 T at the end of February 2025, down 27% compared to the same period a year earlier. In value, these landings recorded an increase of 13% to more than 2.29 billion dirhams (MMDH).
