The MoU, signed by the President of the Tangier Communal Council, Mounir Laymouri, and the Mayor of Djibouti, Mohamed Said Daoud Mohamed, in the presence of the Secretary General of the Organisation of Arab Cities, aims to establish a framework for strengthening cooperation and partnership relations between the two cities, through the exchange of expertise, experiences, and best practices in areas of common interest.
Under this memorandum, the two parties commit to joining forces to develop a multi-sectoral partnership in the fields of urban planning, development, and infrastructure, through the digitalisation of services and smart cities, infrastructure management, and the development of cooperation mechanisms.
The agreement also covers the environment, including natural resource management, energy efficiency, sustainable development, protection of the environment and natural spaces, as well as the development and management of green spaces (reforestation, urban beautification) and waste management and recycling.
In terms of transport, the agreement provides for the exchange of knowledge and expertise to improve urban mobility systems.
Regarding the cultural aspect, the two cities will work to promote cultural activities, particularly those aimed at young people, organise joint cultural events and exhibitions showcasing historical and cultural heritage, and exchange expertise in organising cultural and artistic events.
The signing of this memorandum of understanding follows the proceedings of the 62nd session of the Executive Council of the Organisation of Arab Cities, held in Tangier from January 31 to February 2, in the presence of delegations from major Arab cities, as well as influential figures in local governance.
