Progress of the rehabilitation works of the "Plaza Toro" landmark in Tangier reaches 95 percent

The Tangier Commune has announced that the rehabilitation works of the Bullring (Plaza Toro) landmark have reached a progress rate of 95 percent.
The Tangier Commune highlighted, in a news brief, that the rehabilitation of the "Plaza Toro" landmark is an "ambitious project that came to restore the status of one of the city's most prominent historical landmarks, and make it a space vibrant with cultural, artistic, and economic life".
The Tangier Commune added that, based on the importance it attaches to the cultural sphere, the Municipal Council has actively engaged in the completion of this project by allocating a contribution of 40 million dirhams, thereby reinforcing the total costs which reached 70 million dirhams, and consolidating its leading role in supporting heritage projects with a developmental dimension.
The Bullring landmark, better known to the residents of Tangier as "Plaza Toro", is considered a symbol of the city's ancient heritage, as it was built in 1950 to host the famous bullfighting shows of that time.
The news brief indicated that although these shows stopped permanently in 1970, the arena remained part of the city's memory and heritage.
The project will transform the arena into a modern, multi-functional space with 7,000 seats, including exhibition halls, restaurants, cultural shops, and outdoor exhibition spaces, while equipping the square with modern public facilities such as car parks and large plazas.(MAP)
