While eyes are turning to the city of Tangier, which is directly involved in hosting major sporting events in the future, especially the "2030 World Cup", it seems that some provinces of the region will be involved in this organisation, which has sparked controversy due to the low rating given by FIFA to the infrastructure of the "Bride of the North".
According to data obtained by the electronic newspaper Hespress, the city of Tetouan and its neighbouring cities will also be involved in projects to rehabilitate infrastructure and hotel and tourism establishments capable of accommodating Morocco's guests and football fans from around the world, especially since Tangier is among the cities nominated to host the semi-finals.
According to sources well-informed about the investment sector in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region and the programmes being prepared for launch in the near future, especially regarding the rehabilitation of infrastructure, roads, and classified hotels capable of meeting the expected demand for the global event, part of these projects will benefit various provinces of the region, especially Tetouan, M'diq, and Fnideq.
The same sources noted that the bet is on the "White Dove" (Tetouan) to play a strong supporting role for Tangier and support its success in hosting the World Cup, as the low score given by FIFA to Tangier has shaken the "confidence" of the city's residents and the region in general in the "Bride of the North" as being the "most beautiful, organised, and qualified" in the region, and indeed in Morocco as a whole.
A knowledgeable source stated that the rating, which officials and elected representatives in the city describe as "unfair", did not "take into account the infrastructure and tourism qualifications enjoyed by Tetouan and its surroundings", stressing that the rating received by the city of Fez, for example, at this level "includes the hotel units of the city of Meknes".
The responsible source, who did not wish to be named, stressed that the region will witness "strong investment dynamics in the coming months, which will make it ready and qualified to host any event of any kind", considering that work is underway regarding tourism project programmes that will be created in the city of Tangier and surrounding areas to increase the number of hotels and classified tourism units; this will create significant economic dynamics and activity in the construction and works sector that will benefit the employment sector in the region.
Actors in the tourism sector in the city of Tetouan hope that the "White Dove" will benefit from Tangier hosting the World Cup, especially in terms of rehabilitating infrastructure and achieving some projects that represent a dream for the city's residents and actors in its tourism sector, such as connecting the city to the railway line and the motorway network; this has begun to be discussed within the narrow circles of the political and economic elite in the region.
