And continuing with the fraud case that has rocked the internet. This Thursday, 26 December, a hearing is being held at the Tangier Court of Appeal to examine criminal appeal case no. 370/2611/2024. This concerns proceedings against land registrars, the son of a renowned Casablanca lawyer, and several real estate developers, accused of forming a criminal organisation, falsifying official documents, and complicity in these acts.
The facts date back to a complaint filed by a woman with the investigating judge in Tangier. She claims to have mandated a lawyer from the Casablanca Bar to represent her in a dispute concerning a 60-hectare plot of land located in the heart of the city of Asilah. However, she later discovered that the land had been registered in the name of her former lawyer's son and his associate, a well-known real estate developer.
The plaintiff accuses these parties of forgery, with the complicity of land registrars, to extract land titles for plots and subdivisions, some of which were intended for public establishments built by the State on this land.
The case documents reveal that “the parties concerned allegedly obtained financial compensation worth 2 billion dirhams from State coffers, as part of expropriation procedures for public utility”.
According to well-informed sources, they also allegedly registered streets in Asilah, such as Mehdi Ibn Toumert Avenue, Crown Prince Avenue, and Liberty Street, in the plaintiff's name, even though these streets have no connection to the initial land. The accused are also suspected of having created land titles without any real land base.
It should be recalled that the Asilah Court of First Instance had previously delivered a verdict of acquittal in criminal case no. 251/2023. This verdict was challenged by the public prosecutor and the plaintiff, the latter claiming that “the first-instance judgment ignored the examination of 165 documents she considers as evidence of forgery, and was based on arguments that had not been raised before the court”.
