Associative actors in conclave in Tangier to disseminate and promote the culture of human rights

The role of civil society in the dissemination and promotion of the culture of human rights was at the centre of a study day organised, Saturday in Tangier, at the initiative of the Moroccan League for the Defence of Human Rights (LMDDH).

This meeting is part of the implementation of a partnership agreement, signed last December between the Ministry of Justice and Liberties and the League, aiming at the defence and promotion of human rights in general and the concrete application of these rights on the ground in particular, declared to MAP, on this occasion, the President of the LMDDH, Abderrazak Boughanbour.

Following this study day hosted by the city of the Strait, other similar meetings will be held in Essaouira, Zagora and Fes, as well as in the Southern provinces, the objective being to allow all civil society organisations and the provincial sections of the League at the level of the other regions of the Kingdom to benefit from this initiative, stressed Mr. Boughanbour.

According to him, this meeting aims to involve all civil society actors in the formulation of proposals and the presentation of projects aiming to strengthen the country's democratic edifice according to a participatory approach, in accordance with the provisions of the 2011 Constitution, as well as to develop the capacities of LMDDH activists in terms of monitoring the evolution of the sector and evaluating public policies by taking into consideration the specificities of each region.

It also sets itself the objective of involving the League in all actions undertaken in the field of human rights, with a view to consolidating the achievements made and guaranteeing coordination and complementarity between the different institutions working in this field, he added.

On the programme for this study day, organised under the banner "All committed to the defence of human rights", are four workshops led by members of the LMDDH, actors in the field of human rights and researchers in law.

The themes addressed during these workshops are "International humanitarian law and its relationship with international human rights law", "The components of civil society in the field of human rights", "The technical and scientific mechanisms for collection, monitoring and control within the sections of the League" and "Rights-based approaches to address certain local issues".
