Curtain raiser in Tangier for the 1st Festival

Promote socio-educational activities and accompany these young people by creating small shows that do not require large material resources

The kick-off of the 1st edition of the Youth Theatre Festival, bringing together nine theatrical plays in the running for the first prize, was given on Thursday evening at the Ramon y Cajal school in Tangier.

The opening of this edition was marked by a colourful theatrical play entitled "Bario special" and presented with brilliance by the Attar group, in addition to a "Shadow and Light" show by the Poupin group.

For four days, other theatre, music, and dance shows will furnish this event, organised at the initiative of the Arouss Chamal Association for Culture and Development for the benefit of associations and theatre clubs of educational establishments in the region.

This Festival, which takes place from 11 to 14 February, has the objective of unveiling talents and sparking artistic dreams among school-aged youth, indicated, in a statement to MAP, the coordinator of the Arouss Chamal Association and director of the Festival, Abdelghani Tahiri.

It also aims to promote socio-educational activities and accompany these young people by creating small shows that do not require large material resources, he added.

For his part, Fouad Chaibi, a member of the jury that will reward the best creation, made it known that this festival is a kind of nursery culture for dramatic art in a country "that does not have enough art schools".

"It is giving them the dream to dare, in an environment that young people flee without reason," he stressed.

In addition to the Attar troupe, in the running for the prize of this edition are "Tofoula El Moghtasaba" which will be presented by the El Michaal group, "La Tika F Wlad Atika" by Aman Linnajah, "Rabië Arabi" by the Imam El Ghazali high school, "Tandim El Oussra" by Al Inbiaat, "Atar" by Stanslaviski, "Fham Tsetta" by Mawïd Ma? El Masrah, "Ba Driss" by Arouss Chamal, and "Ostourat El Khawf" by the Ibn El Khatib high school.

The public will also have the opportunity to attend shows given by the Poupin "Shadow and Light" and Break dance troupes, among others.
