Mohammed V-Souissi University: The university meets businesses

Tomorrow will be the second edition of the Employment Forum of Mohammed V-Souissi University. Initiated by students from the three faculties under this university (educational sciences, legal, economic, and social sciences of Souissi and Sala Al-Jadida), this meeting is essentially aimed at "students of these three faculties who are about to obtain bachelor's or master's degrees. Even former graduates or master's degree holders will be able to take part," indicated Hassan Abou Abdelmajid, the university's vice-president.

Organised this year around the theme of "University graduates: high-performing executives for leading establishments," this forum is part of the opening strategy adopted by Mohammed V-Souissi University in the economic world.

An approach whose main objective is to promote the employability of university graduates, particularly in the private sector. The latter does not interest young graduates, who are more attracted to the ranks of the civil service.

The organisation of such an event aims to create a space for exchange between future university graduates and companies. An opportunity, on the one hand, to restore the image of companies among young people who have a devaluing perception of them and, on the other hand, to sensitise private sector recruiters to the quality of training offered within these faculties. For the vice-president, "it is an approach that will allow students to have direct contact with company managers who will answer their questions."

Thus, the expected objectives are diverse, namely the consolidation of the dynamic of communication between the academic world and the business world, the search for an internship or a job for students, and the conducting of interviews. On the menu for these two days of exchanges (18 and 19 April) are an inaugural conference, visits to stands, workshops, and round tables around which managers will lead debates on the theme of youth employment and the adequacy between training and the job market, noted the vice-president.

Questions to: Hassan Abou Abdelmajid, Vice-President of Mohammed V-Souissi University

}

"The particularity of this forum is that it is driven by the students of our faculties"What is the particularity of this forum compared to other events organised by major schools?

-* This forum is driven by the students of our faculties. They were attracted by this key idea of the university president. As a former director of a major school, he developed a certain number of ideas, including the organisation of a Forum for the employment of university graduates and for the term "Excellence". We felt it useful to join it to present our own products emanating from our faculties.

What about the participation of companies in this meeting?

-* In addition to the presence of high-level officials in the field of employment at the inauguration of this edition, there will be the participation of national and international companies. These are companies that recruit and others that support and back this initiative. In short, 30 stands will be set up. They will be reserved for companies, some public establishments, and administrations. Because when we talk about employment, it concerns both the private and public sectors. This is how some public sector establishments will also be present, and they might even be interested in our products, especially since in recent years, there has been a lot of hiring and recruitment in the public sectors. Today, there are still niches that we are trying to explore.

What evaluation do you make of the first edition of this forum?

-* After the forum, several meetings took place to evaluate the results, and the assessment was very positive. Indeed, and just after this event, several companies, notably banks and insurers, contacted us to get contacts for some of our students who took part in this forum.

What is the university doing to upgrade training to meet market needs?

-* We opened, a few months ago, a continuing education centre dedicated to companies. It is, in fact, a sort of relay between the university and the company. Thus, we provide two types of training. One is à la carte, by means of an agreement that sets the type of training. As for the other, it consists of the issuance of university certificates and diplomas, because these are short-term, extremely targeted training courses initiated by our teachers in this or that field. There is also a great deal of work being done to strengthen students' capacities, especially in the linguistic field. Today, living languages are extremely useful, a real joker for those who are looking for a job.
