Taragalte, a Festival organised in the depths of the desert

The Moroccan desert is celebrating. The "Taragalte" Festival, whose sixth edition is currently taking place until 25 January in Mhamid El Ghizlane (Zagora province), returns to present the arts, culture and customs of the Moroccan desert. After the success encountered during the last five editions, "Taragalte" stands out among the most prominent cultural events in south-eastern Morocco. The ZaĂŻla Association, organiser of the event, highlights the theme of "Khaimas" (nomadic dwellings), the main components of nomadic culture. And consequently, the festival will be presented in the form of a large exhibition of utilitarian objects from daily life in the Sahara. Three large tents will showcase the work of artists and artisans from Morocco, Mali and Mauritania.

In addition to workshops related to tree planting, local crafts, ecology, sustainable tourism, the fight against desertification, etc., the Taragalte Festival also hosts this year "The 2nd edition of the Cultural Caravan for Peace", strengthened by the success of the pilot project of the previous edition. The three initiating festivals (Taragalte Festival of Morocco, Festival in the Desert of Mali, and Niger Festival), have decided to expand their partnership by creating a working network called the “Caravane Cultural Network”. This network allows for better coordination of their cooperation and ensures the success of the 2nd edition of the Cultural Caravan for Peace 2015.

Furthermore, festival-goers will have the opportunity to reflect on themes of thought. This year, the organisers have chosen the theme of "Culture as a vector for development and rapprochement between peoples". It must be said that the festival develops, edition after edition, a real activity of valorisation and promotion of the territory with concrete and innovative repercussions on tourist activity in favour of economic and human development.
