The 6th edition of the "Taragalte" cultural and artistic festival, which focuses on the heritage of nomads, opened on Friday evening in M'Hamid El Ghizlane, in the province of Zagora.

The opening ceremony was marked by artistic performances by the Chamra, Rakba and Kank troupes, the launch of "the 2nd edition of the Cultural Caravan for Peace" and the organisation of a dromedary race.

The theme chosen for this 6th edition, "Les Khaimas" (tents), will allow for the exhibition of objects of daily life associated with this main component of nomadic culture in the Sahara and the organisation of thematic tents highlighting the cultural and artistic heritage of nomads. The 6th edition of the festival, organised in cooperation with several Moroccan and foreign partners, sees the participation of artists and artisans from Morocco, Mali and Mauritania and the organisation of workshops on tree planting, local crafts, ecology, sustainable tourism and desertification.

The programme of this event, which annually experiences strong enthusiasm from foreign tourists and Moroccans, includes conferences, a hike in the desert, music concerts and "Saharan trance" evenings hosted by artists and troupes from Morocco and abroad.

This annual event brings together in this region on the border between the Atlas and the Saharan dunes, artists and festival-goers from Morocco and the whole world to enjoy the hospitality and appreciate the cultural richness of the local populations.
