The 12th edition of the International Nomads Festival will be held from 13 to 15 March in M'hamid El Ghizlane (Zagora province), at the initiative of the Nomads of the World Association (ANM), under the theme “Nomads of Africa between regional diversity and common culture: what perspective?”. Several activities are on the programme for this edition, including a demonstration of dromedary racing (Ellaz), a nomad hockey match (Mokhach) and the preparation method for “Mella” sand bread, indicates the ANM, organiser of this annual cultural event.
Cultural meetings on “Nomads in Africa and regional development policies”, “The socio-economic challenges of nomads in Africa” and “Medicinal plants” are also planned during this edition, in addition to an exhibition of local craft products. According to the organisers, the 12th edition will be marked by several concerts, notably with the participation of the group “Diba Dimba” (Burkina Faso) and the troupes “Etran Finatawa” and “Iza” (Niger). The Festival, which will pay tribute to Moroccan popular arts, will be enhanced by the participation of the Amazigh artist Aïcha Tachinouite, the Ribab Fusion group, Mnat Aichata from Guelmim and the Regba dance of the Oued Drâa, in addition to performances by several local troupes.
Organised at the initiative of the ANM in collaboration with several partners, this Festival is an annual event that promotes cultural exchanges, encourages the mobility of artists, participates in opening up south-eastern Morocco, and contributes to empowering populations through active participation. The Association works to safeguard, value and promote the tangible and intangible heritage of nomads. It also encourages scientific and ethnological research in this field.
