The event was organised and supervised by the professors and students of the city's National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA).

This 7th edition of the International Comics Festival, considered unique in its kind in Morocco, was characterised this year by the participation of artists from African, European and Arab countries such as Egypt, Tunisia, Sudan, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Congo, Yemen, Lebanon, France, Spain and Morocco. With the support of the Arab Fund "Afak". More than 400 exhibitions were set up. To this end, three artists were rewarded as part of the "Young Talents and Album Projects" competition. During the opening ceremony, fans of graphics and comics admired an exhibition of engravings on the theme "Creamos in Seville and Tetouan" (we create in Seville and Tetouan),

at the Serghini gallery of the House of Culture and at the Mekki Mghara hall. In addition to the visits and screenings of animated films scheduled in several sites in the city, round tables, debates and autograph sessions, the organisers also planned an artist residency. In this context, a collective album on the theme "Draw me the Arab Spring" is expected to be born, in tribute to the movements that the Maghreb has known. The Festival also includes shows, concerts, animation workshops as well as visits to schools to familiarise young people with the world of comics. The productions, creativity and achievements of young artists are rich and generally deal with current issues. The works presented, especially in the discipline of comics, captured the attention of visitors. Also presented were satirical newspapers, triptychs, paintings... created by young artists such as the works "The Egyptian People" by Dina Said from Egypt, "Tchtchou the prodigy child" by Nsingi Jeremie (Congo Kinshasa) and "Bartolome Segui" (Spain). Several prizes will be awarded to young Arab comic artists participating in the "Draw me the Arab Spring" artistic residency, to the comic strips of the Magazine "Ward and Yassmine", to the works of the "Young Talents, Album Projects" competition and to the comic strips of the "Faber-Castell Prize for Comics" competition dealing with ecology and the environment.

The 9th art, a tradition

It has already been seven years since the National Institute of Fine Arts of Tetouan created the comics branch in the general programme for students. This new discipline has caused a lot of talk and exceeded all predictions. The new arteries and avenues of the city were quickly adorned with magnificent frescoes and comics created by these young artists, which arouse the admiration of passers-by. Between this artistic branch and the annual comics festival, there was only one step, which the organisers quickly took.
