Promoting the craft sector at the heart of HM the King's priorities

The particular interest that His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, attaches to the craft sector and His desire to make it a lever for economic and social development were concretised on Thursday in Oujda through the inauguration by the Sovereign of a vocational qualification centre for craft trades and the launch of the construction of an integrated craft complex.

These projects, which mobilise investments of around 24.3 million dirhams, also aim to promote the craft sector and its integration into the local and national economic fabric, improve the socio-economic conditions of artisans, promote artisanal products, and provide guidance for this trade. Thus, the Vocational Qualification Centre for Craft Trades, inaugurated by the Sovereign, aims to provide young people with professional qualifications adapted to the socio-economic reality of the craft sector through the apprenticeship training mode and to organise continuing training sessions for the benefit of artisans. Built in the Al Amal district, the new centre (6.3 million dirhams) houses sewing, ironwork, and carpentry workshops, training rooms, a meeting room, an exhibition hall, a library, a multi-purpose room, and an administrative block. As for the integrated craft complex, it is intended to be an instrument for promoting the sector, safeguarding cultural identity, transmitting authentic know-how, and adapting artisanal products to quality standards and market constraints. This project, which will be completed within 14 months for a total investment of 18 million dirhams, also sets itself the objectives of supporting, organising, and guiding the artisans of the prefecture to enable them to improve and diversify their income and promote their products. The future complex, designed on three levels with a total covered area of 4,337 m², will include an exhibition hall, shops, and workshops for artisans, the headquarters of the Chamber of Crafts, and that of the Regional Directorate of Crafts.
