Nizar Baraka, Secretary General of the Istiqlal Party, presided on Friday, January 31, in the city of Laayoune, over the holding of the expanded ordinary session of the party's provincial council, under the slogan "Comprehensive mobilization of the Istiqlal Party for the homeland and the citizen", in the presence of Moulay Hamdi Ould Errachid, member of the party's executive committee, alongside the party's parliamentarians, Istiqlali commune presidents, and elected officials and militants of the party in the Laayoune province.
During this meeting, the Secretary General emphasized the importance of the involvement of the party's militants, especially the youth, in its various programs during the year 2025, which the party has designated to be a year of volunteering and youth, with the aim of enabling this category to open up to the management of public affairs, assume responsibility, and contribute effectively to enriching the party's assets with new and effective initiatives.
In his speech, Nizar Baraka highlighted the progress made by the new development model for the southern provinces, where the implementation rate of its projects has reached 90%, most notably the dual road project between Tiznit and Laayoune and Laayoune and Dakhla, which was expanded in response to the High Royal Directives, to reach a length of 1,100 kilometers, which will develop economic and commercial mobility in the region.
In addition to this, the Secretary General touched on strategic projects in the field of renewable energies, where he recalled the importance of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region in producing green hydrogen and ammonia for export purposes, as well as the partnership agreement that Morocco signed with Mauritania to connect Dakhla to Nouadhibou, which will contribute to achieving joint regional development and strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.
In the context of supporting the economic renaissance in the region, Baraka emphasized the expansion of ports to optimally exploit fishery wealth, and the creation of new job opportunities for young people, while developing the industrial sector and strengthening air transport, noting that the Kingdom seeks in this framework to quadruple the fleet of Royal Air Maroc to reach 200 aircraft, while encouraging private companies to launch more domestic flights, which will make Laayoune, along with the rest of the southern provinces, a leading tourist destination.
Within the efforts aimed at sustainable development, the party's Secretary General touched on major environmental projects, including the treatment of wastewater for use in watering green spaces in the city of Laayoune, and the establishment of seawater desalination plants, in addition to investing 19 million dirhams to protect the city from floods, while strengthening awareness of the need to save water resources.
