HM the King inaugurates the National School of Applied Sciences of Khouribga and the Vocational Training Centre of the local prison of Khouribga

After unveiling the commemorative plaque and cutting the symbolic ribbon, the Sovereign took a tour through the various structures and dependencies of this establishment dedicated to the training of versatile state engineers, highly qualified in several specialities.

Responding to the concern to diversify training within the Hassan 1st University of Settat and to boost the socio-economic and industrial environment of the region, the new school, with a capacity of 1,270 students, offers training in network and telecommunications engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, energy and environmental process engineering, in addition to integrated preparatory classes.

Built on a covered area of 6,170 m2, the ENSA of Khouribga, whose construction was ensured by the Ministry of Higher Education, Executive Training, and Scientific Research, is equipped with a multidisciplinary amphitheatre (250 seats), 15 classrooms and tutorial rooms, 7 practical work laboratories, two computer rooms, 14 offices for research professors, and a professors' room.

It also includes a library with a multimedia room, 21 administrative offices, a room reserved for the Marobtikar association (incubator of innovative projects), a snack bar, a copy centre, and two staff accommodations.

The National School of Applied Sciences of Khouribga will have to undergo extension work which will consist of the construction of two amphitheatres of 150 seats each, as well as the construction of a multi-sports field. These extension works will require a budget of 7.5 MDH.

The ENSA of Khouribga offers a five-year curriculum including a preparatory cycle lasting two years and a state engineer cycle lasting three years.

The number of student engineers enrolled reached 489 for the 2011-2012 academic year, compared to 41 students during the 2007-2008 academic year. The number of permanent research professors has seen the same evolution, going from 6 teachers in 2007-2008 to 28 in 2011-2012.

The National School of Applied Sciences of Khouribga is open to its environment thanks in particular to partnerships with national operators and institutions (OCP Group, Province of Khouribga, Regional Investment Centre, ANAPEC, ENSA Morocco Network) and international ones (INSA of Toulouse, INSA of Lyon, INSA France Network, Mediterranean network of engineering schools).

HM King Mohammed VI, may God preserve Him, followed on this occasion, explanations on the multidisciplinary faculty of Khouribga, carried out by the Ministry of Higher Education, Executive Training, and Scientific Research for a budget of 127 MDH.

Built on a 22 ha plot of land, the multidisciplinary faculty of Khouribga has a capacity of 5,000 students in professional licence (automatic and industrial computing, electronic electrotechnical automatic and networks, mining engineering, industrial maintenance, industrial engineering, geo-resources and mining engineering...) or in fundamental licence (Arabic studies, geography, material sciences, life sciences...).

The faculty, which falls under the Hassan 1st University of Settat, is equipped with six amphitheatres, a seminar room, four classrooms, 40 tutorial rooms, 45 practical work rooms, six computer rooms, four foreign language teaching rooms, and two libraries.

These two projects contribute to improving the educational offer in the city of Khouribga. They also participate in the socio-economic development of the region.

HM King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, also proceeded, on Thursday, to the inauguration of the vocational training centre of the local prison of Khouribga, carried out by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Reintegration of Detainees, in partnership with the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration, for a total investment of 9.5 million dirhams (MDH).

After unveiling the commemorative plaque and cutting the symbolic ribbon, the Sovereign took a tour through the dependencies of this centre which offers training in various trades: sanitary plumbing, building electricity, painting, versatile masonry, cutting and sewing, hairdressing, and computing.

The choice of these sectors was made in perfect adequacy with the socio-economic environment of the region in order to facilitate access to the labour market for detainees after their release.

HM the King, may God preserve Him, subsequently visited the training centre of the women's ward where detainees follow training in cutting and sewing and in bakery and pastry making.

The 44th of its kind in the Kingdom, the vocational training centre of the local prison of Khouribga is part of the integrated programme implemented within prisons by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Reintegration of Detainees which aims to transform the prison space into a place of re-education, learning, know-how, and social skills, so that the prisoner of today is tomorrow a full citizen living in respect of the law and in the service of the development of his country.

Education and vocational training constitute the cornerstone of the integrated programme implemented within prisons by the Mohammed VI Foundation and its partners and whose other components (improvement of living conditions, cultural and sports activities, medical care, family mediation) aim to facilitate the reintegration of detainees into society and the world of work.

The particular solicitude that HM the King reserves for this segment of the population reflects the royal will to make the prison space not only a place of deprivation of liberty but a second chance offered to detainees so that they prepare their reintegration on the basis of a life project implemented with the accompaniment of social workers from the services of preparation for reintegration during detention and those of the centres for accompaniment to reintegration after release
