The city of Kalâat M'gouna is preparing to host the events of the 53rd edition of the Rose Festival, which will take place from 7 to 10 May.
In the south of Morocco, a few hundred kilometres from Ouarzazate, when the rose harvest comes to an end, a festival in honour of the flower begins. Floats loaded with roses where "queens" in traditional clothing sit parade through the streets of Kalâat M’gouna and local dances are organised. Children sell necklaces of flowers and rose hearts... This year, all the necessary preparations are well underway, so that nothing is left to chance. The scale of the event and the prime place it occupies among similar events on a national and continental scale make this necessary. This edition, like the previous ones, aims to be part of a philosophy that values human capital and places intangible heritage and the emergence of the city and the province of Tinghir at the heart of all the initiatives included in its programmes.
Voluntarist strategies in terms of event organisation and approaches of all eloquence, including the participatory approach, perpetuating the principle of sharing, in this case, participatory democracy, involving all components of society and making civil society the privileged partner. Spaces have been set up to house the festivities, including the conference room set up at the festival site, and the large stage installed near the city municipality. A rich and varied programme, presenting a panoply of activities including conferences, debates, and round tables that will revolve around the theme "the perfume rose sector for the sustainable development of the oasis space and for the valorisation of its intangible capital". This programme also includes activities with cultural, artistic, and spiritual aspects, including artistic evenings that will be hosted by renowned artists, fantasia, religious evenings, poetry evenings, and others.
Also on the programme are activities with a social connotation, such as the collective circumcision operation, which will benefit children from the city and surrounding regions.
The edition will also see the signing of a series of conventions leading to the development of the region. It will also constitute an occasion for the consecration and signing of a series of books. The edition promises strong moments embodying beauty and authenticity. The Rose Queen's procession will travel along Mohammed V Avenue on 9 May at 5 p.m.
