Chahid El Fadil appointed president: The Moroccan Association for Family Tourism refines its structures

Families from Tanger, Fès, Agadir, Rabat, Salé, Casablanca, and Ifrane met on the weekend of 29-30 January 2011 at the O.C.E holiday centre in Immouzer-Kandar with the objective of creating an association they named the "Moroccan Association for Family Tourism".

This association has set itself the mission of contributing to the development of family tourism and making it one of the factors that contribute to sustainable development.

At the end of the constituent assembly's work, the founding members took several decisions, including the ratification of the modified statutes, the setting of the annual membership fee at around 700 DH per family, the adoption of the decision to create a website, and the appointment of Chahid El Fadil as president, while delegating to him the power to appoint the members of the administrative council, which will meet within a fortnight for the distribution of tasks and the study of the action plan for the year 2011.

The idea of creating this association was born from the conviction of its founding members regarding the undesirable effects associated with tourism in general and family tourism in particular, which lead to the deterioration of the ecological and socioeconomic characteristics of tourist reception areas.

The founding members intend to contribute to the development of family tourism and make it one of the factors that contribute to the sustainable development of disadvantaged regions that have tourist potential, through the association's project under the slogan: "Let's act for citizen tourism". According to the founders of this national associative fabric, citizen tourism generally combines all forms of alternative tourism that respect, preserve, and sustainably enhance the heritage resources of a territory for the attention of tourists welcomed in such a way as to minimise the negative impacts they could generate. The objective is to organise trips for the benefit of Moroccan families in coordination with tourism stakeholders, in particular associations and local tourism companies operating in the reception regions, and to diversify travel activities by basing them on the discovery of culture and the environment, social actions, the organisation of entertainment activities, and the support of tourism in rural regions, in coordination with associations and local stakeholders in order to highlight the local culture and the natural potential of these regions, the organisation of trips inside and outside Morocco with the participation of Moroccan and foreign families to encourage cultural and tourist exchange, as well as the organisation of holiday camps for the children of member families.
