A few days ago, some local electronic sites published a photo-montage accompanied by a commentary accusing the municipal council of Guelmim of wanting to impose Amazigh culture, by building arches at the gates of the city whose architecture would represent Tifinagh characters, proving the Berber belonging of this city, considered the gateway to the desert. These publications were denounced by the provincial council which, in a press release of which Libé received a copy, warns against such actions which aim at the division of the components of the city of Guelmim. These inhabitants, specifies the press release, rich in their Hassani and Berber components, have cohabited harmoniously since the dawn of time, without consideration of ethnic belonging and making the diversity of these components a wealth put to good use on the cultural and socio-economic levels. The press release stresses that current computer techniques are not an end in themselves and must be used wisely and rationally, allowing everyone to derive maximum profit from them. In conclusion, the press release of the provincial council and the statements of its president, the socialist Mohamed Balfkih, converge to explain that the plans of the buildings constructed or under construction are visible in the various entrances to the city and are in no way identical to those published by the sites for malicious purposes. It specifies, finally, that the province of Guelmim has always been, throughout history, a spiritual and civilisational cradle where populations of different origins and beliefs cohabit, which makes it a space conducive to development.
