Initiated by the Sahrawi Association for Sustainable Development and Investment Promotion and the Sayyidati Association for Development and Solidarity, this Forum is intended to be a favourable opportunity to consolidate the strong historical and cultural ties that unite the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region and the Canary Islands. It also reflects the common desire of the Moroccan and Spanish parties to strengthen dialogue and consultation on issues of common interest.
According to a statement from the organisers, this meeting is part of the efforts made by civil society organisations "to highlight the natural, tourist and economic assets that this part of the Kingdom abounds with". The objective is to allow the region to open up to international experiences in order to attract investment and achieve sustainable development.
On the sidelines of the forum, a round table on the theme of investment is planned, with the participation of regional and Canarian economic actors, in addition to an exhibition of local products from the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region and the Canary Islands.
The programme for this forum includes conferences led by Moroccan and Spanish experts on themes relating to the promotion of investment in the region, the historical relations between the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region and the Canary Islands, and the importance of the Spanish language for the culture of the region.
During the official launch ceremony of this forum, at which the Wali of the region, Mohamed Lamine Benomar, was present, the various speakers emphasised the importance of this event in bringing the peoples of the two countries closer together. According to them, the city of Dakhla is a living symbol of this spirit of openness and multiculturalism, just as it reflects the major changes that Morocco is experiencing on the economic and social levels, hence the need to move forward in achieving the goals of sustainable development in the region and to consecrate the values of solidarity and mutual respect between the two peoples.
