Dakhla: Urban planning, land use planning and advanced regionalisation under debate
Land use planning will give a qualitative boost to strategic planning at the regional level.

The city of Dakhla hosted last week an information day on "Urban planning and land use planning at the service of advanced regionalisation".

Chaired by Driss Merroun, Minister of Urban Planning and Land Use Planning, and in the presence of a certain number of operators (elected officials, architects, real estate developers, topographical engineers,...), this day focused on the spatial and economic dynamics that the region is experiencing.

In his speech on the occasion, Mr. Merroun stressed that the place that land use planning now occupies, thanks to the constitutionalisation of regional land use planning schemes, will give a qualitative boost to strategic planning at the regional level.

He added that Morocco is starting a new stage thanks to advanced regionalisation, which represents the cornerstone of any decentralised management of local affairs and the ideal framework for the concretisation of the transversality of public policies, the minister observed, stressing that this project requires the adherence and mobilisation of all local potential and elites to define and carry out a balanced and sustainable development project.

The minister stressed that the holding of this information day, organised by the Ministry of Urban Planning and Land Use Planning in partnership with the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Council, is also an opportunity to bring together elected officials and to listen to their concerns in relation to strategic planning and the concretisation of an effective vision for the development of the region.

On this occasion, two cooperation and partnership agreements were signed between the Ministry of Urban Planning and Land Use Planning and the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Council.

It concerns a framework partnership and cooperation agreement in the field of urban planning, urban architecture and land use planning of the region and a partnership agreement for the financing and implementation of the study relating to the updating of the Regional Land Use Planning Scheme and the implementation of the regional development programme of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region.
