The operation for the exchange of family visits between the Tindouf camps, on Algerian territory, and the southern provinces of the Kingdom, supervised by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), was resumed on Wednesday. According to a press release from the Moroccan Coordination Office with MINURSO, received by MAP, this trip, carried out on Wednesday to and from the cities of Dakhla and Aousserd and which was scheduled for last August, benefited 191 people belonging to 42 families. Thus, 48 people from the provinces of Oued Eddahab and Aousserd, belonging to 12 families, left Dakhla airport for Tindouf, the press release indicates, adding that 143 people from 30 families arrived on the same plane, coming from the Tindouf camps. The operation took place in purely humanitarian conditions and all measures were taken to ensure a good welcome for the participants, the press release specifies. This new exchange brings to 19,793 the number of beneficiaries since the launch of this operation in March 2004, including 9,156 departing from the southern provinces of the Kingdom and 10,637 coming from the Tindouf camps. The Moroccan Coordination Office with MINURSO says, in the press release, that it is satisfied with the resumption of the family visit exchange operation, after a stoppage of more than eight months, calling on the UNHCR to ensure compliance with the provisions of the action plan organising this humanitarian programme.
