Relocation of the inhabitants of the Ksikissat district

The relocation operation for families living in the Ksikissat district was launched last Sunday and involved 76 housing units.

Thus, in the city of Dakhla, the wali of the Oued Eddahab-Lagouira region, governor of the Oued Eddahab province, Hamid Chabar, proceeded last Sunday to the handing over of the keys of 76 new housing units to inhabitants of the Ksikissat district, carried out as part of an urban development and slum relocation programme for a budget of 16 million dirhams.

Mr. Chabar, who was accompanied by a delegation of parliamentarians, presidents of elected councils and professional Chambers, notables, and Sahrawi tribal chiefs, also visited the upgrading sites of the Oum Tounssi, Al Ghoufrane, and Ksikissat districts, the works of which mobilised some 17 million DH.

These sites include, among other things, road works, connection to the liquid sanitation network, and public lighting.

The wali and the delegation accompanying him also went to the site of the redevelopment works of the Hay Essalam district, before giving the go-ahead to the project for the construction of a multi-service reception centre as part of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH).

Already, the city of Dakhla succeeded in January 2010 in definitively eradicating all slums existing on its territory for nearly two decades, after the entire elimination of 5,117 shacks, the creation of two housing estates (Al-Wahda and Ennahda) on a total area of 160 ha, and the resettlement of more than 25,000 people for a total amount estimated at 328 million DH.

According to local housing officials, the sector has undergone major transformations in this city. Indeed, a vast housing construction programme has been carried out since 1979; it has given rise today to housing units structuring urban spaces in a harmonious way. According to them, the State has combined its efforts with those of the private sector through the creation of local companies that have worked effectively to create a new living environment in this region.
