International Youth Meeting: Creation of a global network for peace

The proceedings of the international youth meeting held in Dakhla were marked by the announcement of the creation of a Global Network for Human Peace.

Through this network, the participants in this meeting, which brought together young people from different countries, aim to contribute to the dissemination of the values of peace, dialogue between civilisations and religions, the fight against violence, education in the culture of environmental preservation, and the promotion of sustainable development.

For the young people taking part in this meeting, organised by the Forum of Moroccan Youth for the Third Millennium and the Association for Studies and Research for Development, the creation of the Global Network for Human Peace stems from their desire to accompany the various developments occurring on the international scene and to participate in the consecration of the foundations of world peace.

This four-day event is marked by workshops around the theme of human peace as well as cultural and artistic activities and actions for solidarity and environmental protection.

Partnership agreements for the benefit of local associations were also signed during this meeting, which was crowned by an inauguration ceremony for the "Peace Pool" stele dedicated to world peace, in the presence of members of the Executive Committee of the World Peace Organisation.

The inauguration ceremony for this stele took place in a friendly and colourful atmosphere reflecting the spirit of friendship, solidarity, and fraternity among the young people.

This ceremony was marked by speeches highlighting the profound significance of this event, which serves to consecrate Dakhla's reputation as a prosperous and open city, while consolidating its vocation as a place for meeting, exchange, and cultural blending.

In a speech on this occasion, the coordinator of the international meeting on "Youth and Human Security", Driss Guerraoui, stressed that "the organisation of this event in the heart of the Kingdom's Southern provinces reflects Morocco's pioneering role in the consecration of the values of tolerance, dialogue, and sustainable development on an international scale".

After noting that the young people taking part in this meeting highly appreciate the reforms undertaken in Morocco in various fields, he indicated that this meeting is being held at a particular moment marked by a strong mobilisation of young people around the world to consecrate the foundations of sustainable development and the establishment of peace in different regions of the globe.

For her part, Fumi Johns Stewart, of the World Peace Organisation, welcomed this event which brings together young people from different corners of the world to discuss interesting topics and send a message of peace to all the peoples of the world.

After highlighting the climate of fruitful exchange that marked the work of this international meeting, she emphasised the role of youth in spreading the culture of peace and the values of citizenship within societies.

On Saturday morning, the young participants in this meeting inquired about a series of development projects and tourist sites in Dakhla. They visited, in particular, an agricultural perimeter in Tawarta, an ostrich farming project, the water treatment plant, and the port of Dakhla. This meeting, which opened last Thursday, is organised in partnership with the Southern Agency, the OCP Group, the Oued-Eddahab-Lagouira wilaya, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Royal Air Maroc, and the World Peace Organisation.

The day before, the participants in this meeting, which brings together more than 250 young people of different nationalities, had visited the regional centre of the Moroccan League for Child Protection, where they proceeded to hand over donations in the form of clothing, blankets, and games for the benefit of the residents of this establishment, created in 2003.

The donation ceremony took place in a warm atmosphere marked by friendly exchanges and feelings of solidarity.

The local section of the Moroccan League for Child Protection, whose main objective is to ensure the social protection of children, and particularly that of abandoned children, it is specified, manages nurseries for abandoned infants or those from needy families and kindergartens to relieve working mothers who are absent from the family home during the day.

The young participants in this meeting also went to "Dar Taliba", where they also handed over donations of clothing, blankets, and school supplies for the benefit of the students of this establishment, created within the framework of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH).

They also visited a centre of the "Leader" Association of the Green March, where they inquired about the services provided by this association in terms of fighting illiteracy and training in certain trades for the benefit of disabled people.
