The Joint Quality Control Commission under the province of Chichaoua recently proceeded to the seizure and destruction of a significant quantity of food products unfit for consumption. The various interventions, carried out both in Imintanout and in most urban centres and weekly Souks, thus resulted in the seizure and then destruction of a large quantity of sausages, cheeses, a bag of flour, canned olives, a large box of tomato concentrate, and sugar loaves. According to provincial authorities, the main infractions noted by the members of the Commission are linked in particular to the sale of expired products, the excessive rise in selling prices, and the non-respect of the cold chain and hygiene measures. Reports were drawn up, on this occasion, against the inconvenient traders, it is specified from the same source. All these actions are part of a campaign aimed in particular at protecting the health of the consumer, preserving the purchasing power of citizens, and respecting the rules of hygiene and food safety. Taking advantage of this holy month of Ramadan, some unscrupulous traders do not hesitate to sharpen their knives to bleed us white and to pluck the poor citizens who already have all the trouble in the world to get through this month of high consumption. It is necessary to multiply the interventions in order to put an end to this "savagery" of the market which suits some and makes their fortune in the space of a month. More rigorous inspections are likely to persuade traders to be more lenient and to be content with earning what is permitted by law and avoiding the illicit.
