Boujdour vibrates to the rhythms of the Ouled Tidranine moussem

The province of Boujdour hosted the annual Moussem of the Oulad Tidranine tribe from 4 to 6 May, which has become over the years an annual meeting place for representatives of Moroccan Sahrawi tribes, and which highlights the cultural, heritage and tourism dimensions of the region. This event, organised thanks to the support of the Agency for Socio-Economic Development of the Southern Provinces and local authorities, is also an opportunity to raise awareness of the efforts made in favour of development in this province. According to the organisers, this moussem aims to show local specificities, contribute to the preservation of the cultural heritage specific to the region, highlight its rich and diverse potential as well as encourage certain tourism professionals to invest in the Southern provinces and look at the development projects underway in the province of Boujdour. Among the highlights of this moussem, mention should be made of the parade where drums, women's ululations and folkloric tableaux summarised many symbols of the cultural and social heritage of the Sahara region in Morocco. Conferences were also organised on the sidelines of the moussem, which had as their theme "The role of the zaouia of Ouled Tidranine", "The collective memory of the tribe", as well as a tent for poetry, in addition to shows hosted by popular troupes from different regions of the Kingdom. Exhibitions of local products and handicrafts and thematic tents were set up throughout the days of the moussem. The organisers did not forget to reserve a place for the dromedary, a symbol of the Southern provinces, as well as a dromedary race, which aroused the interest of the populations; camel breeding is part of the popular heritage in Sahrawi society where it is considered a source of pride and courage. The official inauguration of this moussem took place in the presence of Larbi Touijer, Governor of the province of Boujdour, and Ahmed Haji, Director of the Agency for Socio-Economic Development of the Southern Provinces. Moussems present themselves in the Southern provinces as an expression of local daily life and contribute to the enrichment of regional and national cultural heritage. And they are considered very large cultural events for the inhabitants of the region that hosts the moussem, and whose preparations can span the entire year.
