A delegation from the Arab Union of Combatants visits Aït Ourir

The Educational, Cultural and Museum Space of the Resistance and Liberation Army of the Aït Ourir municipality, falling under the Al Haouz province, received a visit at the beginning of the week from a delegation of the Arab Union of Combatants and War Victims. The delegation, led by the Union's president, retired Egyptian General Amine Hussein Ahmed Ibrahim, and including notably the High Commissioner for Former Resistance Fighters and Former Members of the Liberation Army, Mustapha El Ktiri, met with local authorities and elected officials. This visit was used to provide an overview of the landmark dates in the history of the Moroccan resistance and its glorious epic against colonial occupation, as well as the efforts made to preserve the living memory of the resistance.

The delegation subsequently visited the various sections of this museum, which includes a computer and training room, a conference room, another dedicated to shows and exhibitions, and a library. Inaugurated last September, this high place of memory aims to help new generations and the general public discover the rich history of the national resistance through, in particular, the exhibition of unpublished historical documents containing testimonies and accounts, masterpieces, clothing, and weapons and ammunition used by former resistance fighters and former members of the Liberation Army. The delegation's visit to Aït Ourir took place on the sidelines of the proceedings of the twenty-fifth session of the general assembly and the board of directors of the Arab Union of Combatants and War Victims, which were held from 16 to 19 March in Marrakech, under the High Patronage of H.M. King Mohammed VI.

Created in 1960, the Union, whose headquarters are in Cairo, brings together 23 institutions and organisations representing 18 Arab countries. Its goals include promoting world peace, strengthening relations of brotherhood and solidarity between Arab states, and working to ensure decent living conditions for former combatants and former resistance fighters, the families of martyrs, and war victims.
