Meeting in an ordinary session for the month of March 2016, the Council of the Casablanca-Settat region approved, last Monday, several projects relating to regional development in all its aspects and set out in an agenda comprising nine points.
The Council of the Casablanca-Settat region held, last Monday, its ordinary session for the month of March 2016. This meeting was marked by the approval of all the points on the agenda, with the exception of the 9th and final point relating to the election of a 9th vice-president of the council, which was postponed to the next session. Thus, the elected officials of the region approved, unanimously, the project relating to the creation of the Regional Agency for Project Execution, as well as the one relating to the constitution of a monitoring and surveillance committee for the said agency. This committee is composed, in addition to the first two vice-presidents of the council, of the president of the regional budget and finance commission, the president of the regional economic, social, cultural and environmental development commission, the president of the regional land use planning commission, as well as a member of the opposition to the council wearing the hat of the Justice and Development Party (PJD).
The council also adopted, unanimously, the project relating to a framework partnership agreement linking the Council of the Casablanca-Settat region and the Ministry of Urban Planning and Land Use Planning. This partnership agreement relates to the implementation of the regional land use planning scheme, as well as the establishment of a regional development programme.
The elected officials also approved an annex to the agreement relating to the construction of a lane reserved for heavy goods vehicles and linking the port of Casablanca to the Zenata Logistics Zone. At the same time, a project concerning the increase in credits for the first tranche of the budget, as well as the opening of credits for the second tranche, was approved by 35 votes to 28 abstentions. The point relating to the organisation of the administration of the region was, for its part, sanctioned by 32 votes for and 28 abstentions.
