The electronic newspaper Hespress learned from well-informed sources that the tax audits that included thousands of businessmen in the city of Tangier yielded significant results and injected large sums into the state treasury, which those concerned paid willingly without any hesitation.
According to the well-informed sources, about 4,000 businessmen, including politicians, succeeded in paying the settlement tax set at 5 percent before the end of the current year 2024.
Sources from within the circles of businessmen confirmed that the ongoing tax audits took a long time of scrutiny and review, and indicated that some of those involved in the unique operation required long months, approaching half a year.
The same sources also stressed that other investors succeeded in passing the test and review, which had spread fear among many of them, in a period not exceeding two weeks, and considered that the amounts collected were “very large”, stating that “the total figure cannot be predicted”.
The operation included well-known names in the city who combine investment and political work, and the amounts they paid to the state treasury within the framework of the settlement tax reached hundreds of millions.
The same sources indicated that the businessmen who were subject to tax audits in the capital of the North complain about the strictness they faced from the tax authorities, which refused to provide any “facilities in this regard”, noting that despite this, “they are paying the required amounts and rushing to do so before entering the year 2025”.
It is noteworthy that the race of businessmen to pay the settlement tax before the end of the current year is not limited to the city of Tangier, but includes various cities and provinces.
The operation witnessed great activity in major hubs such as Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, and Agadir, according to what informed sources announced earlier to Hespress.
