"From continental exception to regional leadership" is the theme of a seminar that aims to define the vision of all public and private decision-makers on the future of Tangier.
The city of the strait recently hosted a reflection seminar within the framework of the "Tanger Horizons" project and organised around the theme "From continental exception to regional leadership". Held under the aegis of the urban commune and the Council of the Tangier-Tétouan-Al-Hoceima region, the meeting brought together various actors and stakeholders, with the ambition of looking into the future of the city of the strait and accompanying the reflection on the place it occupies in the new economic and institutional dynamic of the Kingdom. "Tanger Horizons offers the opportunity for all the vital forces to measure with more accuracy the enormous potential that Tangier abounds with and to build a vision of the future for the city according to a prospective reflection approach," declared to MAP Hatim Benjelloun, founder of the think tank "Radius" at the initiative of the event. He added: "A perception study was carried out among 30 key stakeholders of the city, with more than 40 hours of interviews recorded in the form of discussions and transversal exchanges, the objective being to collect the perception of the respondents on the future of Tangier during the coming decades, but also to collect their main ideas, recommendations, or suggestions".
For his part, Omar Moro, president of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services of the region, estimated that this meeting was in line with the ambition to develop Tangier as a privileged platform in sectors of interest for national and international investors. "The city of the strait and its region, which promise to live up to their reputation, have this time all the cards in hand to win this bet," he added. For her part, the president of the Commission for Cooperation, Partnerships, and Moroccans of the World at the Regional Council of Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima, Salwa Demnati, stressed that this seminar testifies to the importance of Tangier's strategy, the strong potential, and the development dynamic that the city is experiencing thanks to the important structuring projects initiated, affirming the will of the Regional Council to work in concert with all stakeholders to achieve the expected development and fight against poverty and precariousness.
The vice-president of the Tangier town hall, Mohamed Amahjour, for his part, indicated that this think tank made it possible to rethink the future of Tangier and to advance projects, by bringing out the strategic axes to be developed in the city in consultation with the various stakeholders from the economic, political, and social world.
