His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, inaugurated a centre for the training and strengthening of women's skills on Saturday in the Mesnana district of Tangier, a solidarity project intended to promote the socio-economic conditions of the target population and to enhance their role in the local development process.
Built by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity for a total budget of 6 million dirhams, this project testifies to the priority given by the Sovereign to the consolidation of women's skills, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, in order to enable them to emancipate themselves and fully consolidate their position within society.
Built on an 800 m2 plot, the Centre for the training and strengthening of women's skills in the Mesnana district, whose construction work was launched by H.M. the King on 2 August 2013, aims to support underprivileged women by equipping them with various skills (culinary arts, tailoring, hairdressing-aesthetics, embroidery) allowing them to have stable incomes, particularly through income-generating and employment activities.
This Centre will also allow for the functional literacy of the beneficiary women, the improvement of their socio-economic conditions, as well as the education and preschool monitoring of their children under five years old.
The Centre for the training and strengthening of women's skills includes workshops for cooking-pastry, tailoring, embroidery and manual work, traditional sewing, hairdressing-aesthetics, as well as rooms for computer science, training of preschool educators, classes, literacy, academic support, and listening and orientation for women. It also includes a preschool education space housing preschool classrooms, a rest room, an infirmary, and a kitchenette.
This project with a strong social impact is the result of a partnership between the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity (construction and equipment) and the Office of Vocational Training and Promotion of Work, which provides technical supervision for the vocational training workshops. Its management is, moreover, entrusted to the Union of Students of Tangier-Tetouan Association - Mesnana Section.
The action of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity in the city of Tangier aims to provide an appropriate response to local social problems through the implementation of solidarity projects within the framework of a participatory approach with civil society and for the benefit of the most vulnerable populations, particularly women.
