The city of Tangier is hosting, until 12 February, the Northern Handicraft Fair held under the theme "Handicraft of the North – Art and Creation". This event welcomes about thirty cooperatives and associations of artisans from the regions of Tangier-Tétouan and Taza-Al Hoceima-Taounate, who have come to present typical products of the Northern region.

The fair is organised within the framework of the Handicraft Development Plan in the Northern regions, indicates a press release from the organising committee. This cooperation programme, implemented by the Agency for the Promotion and Development of the North and the Ministry of Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, is financed by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation.

The fair, which has taken up residence on the Corniche, offers the public a wide choice of traditional weaving items, rural women's pottery, and furniture. The revisited Mendil Jebli, the Ouled Azzem djellaba in its new version, and the authentic Ouazzania fabric (kharka) are among the creations exhibited. Women's pottery from the north of Oued Laou, Al Hoceima, and Taounate will also be strongly present. This pottery, which has been shaped for centuries, still retains millennial forms and symbols.

Basket weavers from Marja (Guercif), Beni Frassen (Taza), Moulay Bouchta Khammar (Taounate), and Rouadi (Al Hoceima), who have mastered the fibres of "doum" (wicker), "halfa", and cane, are also taking part in the event.

Inlaid or painted wood items (tazouwakt), art ironwork creations, as well as various leather goods accessories also adorn the fair's stands alongside various local products.
