The Tanger Med Port has gained 20 places and is ranked 55th in the world for container traffic, while the new car activity is still recording clear growth, according to the British specialist magazine "Container Management" which has established the ranking of the 120 most important ports in the world in terms of container traffic. Indeed, at the Tanger Med level, container traffic stood, at the end of the first half of 2014, at 1,500,000 TEU containers (twenty-foot equivalent), an increase of 24% compared to the same period last year. In parallel, traffic at the Renault car terminal stood at 94,500 units, of which 79,500 were produced in the Renault Mellousa factory in Tanger, thus recording an increase of 64% compared to the same period in 2013. For its part, the Common User terminal recorded traffic of 24,083 units during this semester, an increase of 51% compared to the first half of 2013.

Thus, by clinching, thanks to the good performance of the year 2013, the 55th place worldwide, the Tanger Med Port de facto occupies the third place in Africa after Port-Saïd (Egypt) and the Port of Durban (South Africa). Tanger Med is also the seventh Mediterranean port. "Morocco can only congratulate itself on this beautiful performance which places the Moroccan port hub among the ranks of major global port infrastructures," indicated, for the occasion, the Tanger Med Port Authority (TMPA) in a statement.
