The 18th edition of the Tangier International Book and Arts Fair (SIT) will be held from 7 to 11 May at the Palace of Italian Institutions, with the ambition of launching a reflection on Africa, its cultural diversity, its political and economic solidarities, and the influence of its intellectual and artistic creation. The result of a long-standing collaboration between the French Institute of Tangier, the Tangier Region Cultural Action Association (ATRAC), and local cultural and institutional actors, the SIT will combine literature, debates, music, visual arts, and cinema, specifies a press release from the organisers, received by the MAP. A flagship event of the France-Morocco Cultural Season, the Tangier Fair "is distinguished by a desire to open a debate on the major issues that cross our evolving society," indicates the same source. This new edition will question the Morocco-Africa links, notes the press release, recalling that "the Kingdom maintains strong cultural and commercial relations with its neighbours in the South," especially since the recent trip of HM King Mohammed VI to West Africa, just like the activities of large Moroccan companies, testify to the importance of these exchanges. "Today in full growth, the country is emerging as a new economic and financial hub for the rest of the continent," the initiators estimate, noting that "the various interventions of the Fair will highlight the great linguistic and cultural diversity of the Africas." For five days, writers, journalists, philosophers, historians, artists, diplomats, economists, and business leaders will gather around subjects as diverse as "The future of languages in Africa," "New ways of disseminating knowledge and literature," "How to reappropriate and teach history," "Regional political logics," "Economic solidarities," and "Preservation and marketing of music."
